The event, held on 29 April 2026 at Graha ISS, Bintaro Support Center, brought together clients, operational teams, technicians, and vendors as part of a collective effort to strengthen understanding of fire and explosion risks within building and facility environments.
The seminar was one of ISS Indonesia’s contributions to the Global Safety Week initiative led by ISS Global. Through this activity, ISS Indonesia encouraged stakeholders to enhance awareness of risk prevention and foster safer work environments through collaboration.
According to Mirza Kurniawan, HSEQ Department Head of ISS Indonesia, the theme of fire and explosion safety was selected because fire incidents remain one of the key risks that can occur across various types of facilities and workplaces.
“Fire risks remain one of the challenges that can occur across various types of facilities. Through this seminar, we aim to strengthen understanding and collaboration with clients and stakeholders in preventing fire-related risks and creating safer workplaces. In line with ISS’s safety culture, we believe safety can be achieved through the spirit of Creating Safe Spaces Together,” said Mirza Kurniawan.
During the seminar, Dr. Adrianus Pangaribuan encouraged participants to examine fire and explosion risks from an engineering perspective, complementing the occupational safety approach that is commonly discussed from management and HSE perspectives. Through this viewpoint, participants gained a better understanding of how fires and explosions can occur in different types of buildings and facilities.
The session also covered various factors that may trigger fires and explosions, including risks associated with electricity, electrostatic discharge, dust, and gas. In addition, participants were invited to understand the characteristics of these risks across different facilities, ranging from office buildings, apartments, and hotels to more critical facilities such as hospitals.
Dr. Adrianus explained that understanding risks from an engineering perspective can help facility management teams and operational personnel recognize potential hazards within their working environments.
“Discussions have mainly focused on HSE aspects. However, we are now trying to broaden the perspective through an engineering approach. This approach helps in understanding the potential risks of fire and explosions in buildings and facilities exposed to dust and gas, including contributing factors such as electrical and electrostatic issues. Through this understanding, ISS clients can become more aware that these risks may potentially occur in their facilities and understand how they should be handled.” explained Dr. Adrianus Pangaribuan.
In addition to strengthening awareness of fire and explosion risks, the seminar also reinforced the implementation of SAFE Behaviour, particularly the Speak Openly pillar, by encouraging openness in communicating potential risks and highlighting the importance of communication and collaboration among stakeholders in creating safer work environments.
Through this initiative, ISS Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to continuously strengthening its safety culture, enhancing stakeholder awareness, and supporting the creation of safe and sustainable workplaces.
